The Affordable Flooring programme from Greenstream Flooring CIC provides low-cost flooring solutions to housing associations and their tenants.
The aim of the programme is simply to provide existing social housing tenants, otherwise unable to afford carpet, with carpet and flooring. This mainly been done historically by providing otherwise ‘wasted’ reused heavy-duty contract carpet tiles’ direct to tenants; either fitted or for DIY fitting subsidizsed or paid-fully in full by the housing association.
The ‘Floored Report' from TPAS showed that social housing tenants can live without flooring for years, and this can have a detrimental effect on both their physical and mental wellbeing. The report concurs with Greenstream Flooring CIC's practical experience of tenants' difficulties in financing the basic warmth, sound, and general comfort that carpet provides.
Modern backings and advanced manufacturing techniques have made the carpet tile our preferred option; however broadloom carpet and other flooring is also available to tenants who are local to us. Our easy to fit carpet tiles provide a DIY option and can be delivered direct to the tenant.
We have created three simple optionsand as a social enterprise with supporting our communities and people at our heart, we decided to call each of our flooring options after our staff, who are the bedrock of our organisation.
Meet Lloyd, Shannon and Wendy . . .
Each option is can be administered directly with tenants or through a simple voucher issued by the housing association. Where an option states boxes of carpet tiles this is 20 carpet tiles which will cover 5m2.
Let's take a closer look at each flooring option . . .
Lloyd - Regional supply and fit
We use flooring fitters experienced in both commercial and domestic fitting to provide a supply and fit service to households in the South West and South Wales. Tenants supported by their housing association can access any type of flooring for their homes. Our reused carpet tiles remain a firm favourite due to their value, longevity and environmental impact.
Shannon - National delivery and DIY
This option makes new or reused carpet tiles available to be delivered direct to tenants. Each box of 20 carpet tiles contains full instructions for fitting the carpet tiles with links to how to videos. We also include non-chemical adhesive squares to fit the carpet tiles instead of adhesive spray. Carpet tiles delivered directly to door are the repsonsibility of the tenant. We provide tracking for all orders too so you know when to expect the order. The option is available nationwide.
Wendy - Local collection of reused carpet tiles and DIY
We also welcome local tenants to our warehouse to collect reused carpet tiles, choosing their flooring based on agreed amount confirmed by a voucher issued by the housing association. It is the repsonsibility of the tenant to take up the offer to the value of the voucher and they are welcome to top up themselves. Vouchers are usually vaid for six months and will need to be reissued to be used after this period. The stock at our warehouse changes regularly and this provides people with the chance to come in and see the colours and patterns available. Each box of 20 carpet tiles includes fitting instructions and non-chemical adhesive squares.
