Meet the Team - Peter De Kretser
Over the last few months, we have been profiling a team member each month.
This month we are focussing on Peter who works as our warehouse assistant.
At Greenstream Flooring CIC we are committed to supporting employability and providing work opportunities for local people by creating prospects through sustainable employment.
We are very proud of the work our team do and how they develop over time with us.
1. Why did you choose to apply for a job with Greenstream?
I started off in a programme. I was looking for work experience and I started cleaning tiles. After spending time here, I liked the values of the company and knew I wanted a job here.
2. You joined in 2017, how has your journey here been?
Since 2017, we’ve seen some changes. We've been proactive, increasing the amount that we process. I know the company is still a work in progress, but I've loved watching it grow and start to reach our full potential as a team.
3. What's it like working with the team?
The team is changing and growing all the time. Everyone here is a real individual character, with their own ideas and ways of working. We all know how each other works and we’re good at communicating and listening to each other. We’re like a family. We think about each other.
4. How do you like dealing with the general public?
I like dealing with the public, our free events especially. Listening to feedback from the customers is so positive, seeing how you're helping others, gives you a fuller purpose.
5. What has been the most important lesson you have learnt so far?
When connecting with volunteers, we are all aware that most jobs are unhelpful if you are struggling, so when people come to the warehouse to work we’re mindful you may have a bad day, and that's okay. My biggest lesson is just treat people with kindness and how you’d expect for yourself.
6. What is the best bit about your job?
That's difficult because there are so many. The idea that the work I'm doing is helping people is very rewarding. It's so positive helping someone who is lacking confidence, to then see them come out of their shell and flourish in a working environment. Just watching people learn and grow, and being a part of that.
7. Did you know that carpet could be recycled before you joined Greenstream; and how do you feel now about recycling?
Recycling has been something I was interested in even before my role here. It’s a big subject so it's nice to be doing something that's helping the world's urgency.
8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Since coming from the programme I have planned to stay here. There's always talk of changes and I’m excited to see where the company goes.
9. What are you most proud of ?
Bringing transferable skills from my other jobs to help here. I was able to bring something I enjoy to the job, and show what I bring to the table. It's very rewarding to do your part and help others.
